The Taj Mahal

Taj Mahal – Architecture Study

This piece was done as an architectural study for a college course. I chose the Taj Mahal as my topic for it’s cultural significance and fine artistic detail, all of which is represented in the final model. Designed specifically to be used in the Unity 3d game engine I placed a heavy emphasis on polygonal economy, as such given the rotational symmetry of the structure itself I was able to compose a quarter-piece of the model for import and then duplicate and combine in-engine to create the whole structure.

The artistic details in this model are precise, in that I have replicated all the actual inscriptions and artistic flourishes that are visible on the exterior of the building. For this I utilized a very large scope of visual resources and tools found throughout the internet and in combination with photoshop pattern techniques and UV texture placement was able to recreate these details with little resource cost .

This is absolutely one of my favorite pieces, it was a lot of fun to work on and after having completed it I learned a lot about the structure and myself. Hopefully one day I’ll be able to include this in a game and put it to use, which would perhaps give me an excuse to model the interior and grounds as well.
